Glossary
Every active in a Selene formula is selected for one reason: published evidence that it works at the molecular level the label promises. This is the laboratory's reading list.
Signal Peptide
INCI · Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1
A matrikine signal that instructs fibroblasts to synthesize new collagen.
A lipid-conjugated tripeptide derived from the natural breakdown of collagen. The palmitoyl chain enables it to cross the stratum corneum and reach the fibroblast layer, where it binds receptors that upregulate collagen I, III, and fibronectin synthesis.

Carrier Peptide
INCI · Copper Tripeptide-1
Ferries trace copper into the dermis, where it activates wound-repair pathways.
First isolated from human plasma in 1973. GHK binds copper with high affinity and delivers it across the barrier, triggering antioxidant defense, collagen and elastin synthesis, and the remodelling of the extracellular matrix.

Retinoid Alternative
INCI · Bakuchiol
A plant-derived molecule that activates retinoic acid receptors without the irritation.
Extracted from the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia. In 12-week split-face studies, bakuchiol matched the wrinkle-reducing effect of retinol with no scaling, redness, or photo-sensitization. Safe through pregnancy and across all phototypes.
Found in: Radiant Tone Serum
Vitamin B3
INCI · Niacinamide
A multifunctional vitamin that strengthens the barrier and regulates pigmentation.
A water-soluble form of vitamin B3. At 4–5% it improves ceramide synthesis, reduces transepidermal water loss, inhibits melanosome transfer to keratinocytes, and modulates sebum. One of the most evidence-supported molecules in modern dermatology.

Barrier Lipid
INCI · Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP
The structural lipids that hold the skin's water-retentive lattice together.
Ceramides comprise roughly 50% of the lipid mass of the stratum corneum. A multi-ceramide complex — NP, AP, and EOP — restores the bilayer in the precise ratio the skin produces it, sealing in moisture and excluding irritants.

Regenerative Vesicle
Nano-vesicles carrying signaling RNA, peptides, and lipids that activate skin repair.
Exosomes are nanoscale messengers — 30 to 150 nm — that cells use to communicate. Plant-derived exosomes (often from rose stem cells or Centella asiatica) deliver micro-RNAs and growth-factor mimics that prompt dermal cells to enter a repair-and-renewal state.

Humectant
INCI · Sodium Polyglutamate
A humectant that holds up to four times more water than hyaluronic acid.
A biopolymer fermented from Bacillus subtilis. Where hyaluronic acid binds approximately 1,000 times its weight in water, polyglutamic acid binds up to 5,000. It also inhibits the enzyme that breaks down naturally occurring hyaluronan.

Stabilized Vitamin C
INCI · Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate
An oil-soluble, pH-stable form of vitamin C that penetrates deeper than L-ascorbic.
L-ascorbic acid is famously unstable. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is its lipid-soluble ester — stable at neutral pH, four times more bioavailable in the dermis, and non-irritating. It converts to active ascorbate inside the cell.
